The Heart Behind the Ceremonies

My Journey to Celebrancy

My path to becoming a celebrant wasn't planned, it was shaped by family loss and the deep understanding that life's most important moments deserve to be honoured properly.

I come from a big Irish family where family gatherings, storytelling and supporting each other through everything is simply how we live. My dad was one of 14 children and my mum was one of three, so I grew up understanding that family isn't just about blood, it's about the people who show up, who care and who celebrate and mourn together.

For over 26 years, I worked in special education, supporting children and families through challenges, loss and celebrating their successes. I also trained as a qualified hairdresser early in my career, which taught me the importance of really listening to people and helping them feel confident and beautiful on their special days.

The Moment Everything Changed

My journey to celebrancy began during lockdown when we lost my dad. As a large Irish Catholic family, we were used to traditional church funerals with extended family, hymns, meaningful music and a proper farewell. Instead, we only had a few of us at my dad's graveside which was very different from what I was used to.

It didn’t seem too long after that when my younger brother became terminally ill. His partner and daughter weren't religious, while other family members were, so we ended up having both a full traditional Catholic service and a celebrant-led ceremony. This ceremony truly captured who my brother was, with my niece and great nephew being able to speak eloquently about my brother and the celebrant talking as though she knew him. We were laughing and crying and it felt like we gave him a great ‘send off’. That's when I realised how unique and beautiful bespoke ceremonies could be.

Why I Do This

After my brother's passing, I decided that life was too short to work five days a week without making time for the people who matter most. I wanted at least one day during the working week to visit family members, catch up with my grandchildren, or be available for friends and family who might need my time.

I knew I didn't want to return to hairdressing, work in an office or retail. What I wanted was something where no two days would be the same, where I could work with people, hear their stories and help create something meaningful for their most important moments.

When I kept seeing advertisements about becoming a celebrant, I realised that this could be the perfect fit. I could support people during their time of need, whilst ensuring loved ones received the unique personalised ceremonies they deserved, just like my brother had.

My Approach

I believe in celebrating who you are as a family. Whether that means including prayers and hymns alongside contemporary music, creating space for multiple generations to participate or finding ways to honour traditions whilst embracing what makes you unique. I'm here to make it happen.

My style is classic and traditional, but with warmth and flexibility. I believe in maintaining a relaxed, personal atmosphere while ensuring ceremonies feel elegant and dignified. I have the ability to balance formality with genuine warmth, making sure everyone feels comfortable and included.

What Drives Me

Empathy and trust sit at the core of everything I do, complemented by respect, integrity and hard work. Whether I'm helping a family say goodbye to a loved one or celebrating a couple's journey together, my aim is to create a supportive space where all emotions are welcome.

I firmly believe that every person deserves to have their ceremony exactly as they envisage it, without feeling they need to compromise their values or beliefs to please others. Whether you're planning a traditional ceremony with religious content or something completely unique, like a skydiving-themed celebration, my role is to honour your choices and create an environment where you feel completely comfortable being yourselves.

Living in the Heart of It All

I live in a village on the Hillingdon/Buckinghamshire border, which means I can be in London within 30 minutes by train, but I'm also right on top of the Chilterns. I love having the best of both worlds, access to incredible venues in the City and the beautiful countryside locations that make for such memorable ceremonies.

Personal Touches

When I'm not conducting ceremonies, you'll find me spending time with my husband and extended family (we often have 22 family members around the dinner table at Christmas!), enjoying fine dining and good wine, taking walks in nature and occasionally enjoying a good sing-along. Family meals, celebrations and bringing people together are what I truly enjoy, which is probably why I love this work so much.
